Play Therapy
Play is the way children communicate. Just as adults use words, children use play, and the stories they tell us through play, to allow us into their world. Play therapy involves the therapist being attuned to the child, reflecting and validating their play, and asking questions.
Successful play therapy can help children express themselves, feel heard and understood, and overall feel happy and safe. Some of the topics that play therapy can help kids with are:
- Grief over loss of a loved one
- Anxiety about parent divorce, moving homes, or other family conflict
- Stress from school, both academic and social-emotional
- Challenges in the classroom such as lack of participation, issues with other students, or general dislike of school
